Ofsted Section 5 Revised Framework - Meeting the New Requirements
There is no doubt the revised Ofsted Section 5 inspection framework introduced from January significantly raises the bar on what is expected of schools.
The concentration of inspection within four key inspection areas indicates the depth of the new criteria by which schools will now be judged and an overall judgement made. This is certainly evident in the area of Safeguarding.
As confirmed by Maria Dawes, co-author of the revised Ofsted framework, safeguarding remains a main inspection component which will be fully evaluated within the two revised "Leadership and Management" and "Behaviour and Safety" categories.
Ofsted will vary the frequency of school inspections depending on the findings of the school's last inspection however it is important to note that, should the risk assessment of the school's performance indicate there are safeguarding concerns, this will prompt an inspection. This is the case for all schools and academies, even those rated as outstanding and regarded as exempt from the rolling inspection programme.
This is an essential time for schools and academies to consider auditing the full breadth of Safeguarding areas.

I was so impressed with the audit tool, it was comprehensive and examined such a wide range of
safeguarding topics. The audit measured what we had in place and how integrated our policies, protocols
and practices were.
